Sunday's Thanks

1- Got to tell Rob Happy Father's Day TWICE today! I'm loving the fact that they are slowly, but surely getting more creature comforts :-)

2- Had homemade peach ice cream at my granddaddy's house today. YUM

3- Gracie lost her first top tooth tonight. Well, I tried to insert a video but it wouldn't let me :-(
The rest of the story is that she SWALLOWED the tooth!

4- Swam in the pool with the kids tonight. Well, I didn't get used to the water enough to completely submerge until it was only Faith left in the pool, but I had fun the whole time -- even when it was just splashing around.

5- Just made on the stove popcorn and am going to go read -- hopeful that Sam will sleep all night!

Saturday's Thanks

1- Got a book lamp today from Walmart. Now maybe I won't wake Sam while I read until TOO late!

2- Yummy food and great family tonight at Mom's summer picnic. Which was held inside because it was 100 degrees outside :-p

3- I got to talk with Rob today for a few minutes. I still don't like the satellite phone, but I'll take what I can get!

4- Sam has started saying "Uh-Oh" ... I'll try to get a video of it tomorrow to post

5- Grace is about to lose her first TOP tooth. She will really be a snaggle tooth :-) I don't know how the tooth is still there. It is barely holding on, but she is SO scared to just pull it. Hopefully, I'll have a picture of her snaggle tooth mouth tomorrow... and not a report that she swallowed the tooth!

Thursday's Thanks

1- NC sales... why are they so much better than sales in KY? Even at the same stores?!? The sales at Target stores in Raleigh are 12x better than those in Elizabethtown. I guess there is not as captive an audience...

2- My kiddos are finally comfortable enough in the pool that I can splash and dunk them :-) Well, the girls are anyway. Still working on Bubba. He thinks once his hands get "wrinkly" it is time to get out. I hope it is because mom's pool is still pretty chilly and that he will be better when faced with warmer water!

3- Tacos for dinner

4- Sangria with dinner :-)

5- Got to see Kate's townhouse -- though we only stayed a little while. It wasn't quite ready for the Fairel clan to invade! You can tell when we go into a house that doesn't have kids -- small, breakable objects left down low :-) I fell in love with the development! I know where we'd be buying if we were coming back to NC!

Wednesday's Thanks

1- this flippin' headache finally seems to be on its downward spiral

2- got to talk with my Rob today -- and could actually understand MOST of his words :-)

3- My kids actually ate their dinner without too much fussing tonight

4- I've already finished two books since being in NC -- The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society and Salt and Saffron. Both books that I would recommend. I definitely liked the first better, but the latter was such a fast, easy read it deserves a read too :-) As a matter of fact, mom started TGL&PPPS last night and is about to finish it. Maybe I can convince her to blog about it ... yeah right.

5- I got my mailing roster turned in to Battalion. Granted it was a few days late (it was due on Monday) but I think I probably wasn't the last!

Trip -isms and Tonight's Thanks

First, the isms :-)

*We were driving through the mountains of Tennessee last night and my ears stopped up -- you know -- got all stuffy from the change in altitude. As I was trying to pop them, I looked back and saw Faith holding her nose. I knew exactly what she was doing, as we had talked about it just a few days earlier. What was she doing? She calls it "getting the air out of her ears" -- makes sense to me :-)

*Around midnight, I decided to keep driving and push through to mom's house (instead of stopping for the night). The kiddos were all asleep -- until all of a sudden, Faith started crying. Since this was no where near our first road trip, I knew exactly what was wrong. She said her foot was vibrating. Her foot was asleep :-)

*Once we got to mom's, we rested and the kids woke up bright and early to explore the territory of mom and dad's. It has been 6 months since we've been in NC, so everything was relatively new. We quickly found ourselves outside, playing. Grace couldn't believe that at mamaw's house, it rains straw! (The pine needles are falling from the trees). Josh was chasing the golf balls that granddaddy let him hit -- but he didn't have shoes on, so he would only follow them on the grass. Well, I hit one a little too hard and it landed in the pinestraw near a tree. He came running back to borrow my flip flops -- saying he couldn't walk 'over there' because there were 'pinecorns' all over the place!

Thanks--
1- I am so thankful to be in NC and not have to make that drive again for 2 weeks!

2- I got to nap today -- and didn't have to worry about where my children were or what they were doing!

3- That nap... I got to snuggle up with Holly for it :-)

4- I am excited about doing Komen in the morning with the girls. I really hope to not be carrying them by the end :-p

5- The blueberries on dad's bushes are almost ripe! Looks like we will be eating them before we go home :-)

Sunday's Thanks

1- Sam had a horrible night last night -- but since mom is here, she came and got him at around 8am and let me sleep. Meant we missed church, but man was it nice to have a bit of a break.

2- Went to the pool today. Grace doesn't trust me -- seems I 'let her go under' when she knocked me down last time she went down the slide. She did let mom take her in, though. Once she was in, she was begging to take the life vest off! Of course, I wouldn't let her, but she sure did try.

3- Sam has started taking steps. Such a cute little FrankenSam.

4- New neighbors moved in about two weeks ago. They have a 5 year old little girl -- not many of those in this neighborhood! The kids all went over to her house last night to swim in her little backyard pool. The had fun and I got to meet some other Knox women!

5- Yesterday, our front steps were painted. Kind of a rust color, but painted nonetheless. Of course, they didn't think to repair them first... so there's no telling how bad it will look in about a month.

6- Faith is swimming like a champ. She still wearing the life vest, but mainly because the shallowest part of the water is 3.5 ft and I don't have enough arms to hold onto her, Sam, Bubba and Grace. :-)

7- Bubba even jumped into the pool today! Granted it was off of the steps, but I will definitely take small steps of progress!! Hopefully, this week of mom being here and our two weeks in NC will really help their water confidence!

Thursday's Thanks

1- today was super relaxing. It was raining, so we didn't really *do* anything. I did some laundry and tried to clean up a bit, but when you clean while the kids are playing, it doesn't really get clean

2- I am excited about some new books I got at the library today. Really hoping to like at least one :-) I have become quite picky...

3- Agreed to run/walk Komen next weekend with my sisters and the girls (Grace, Faith and Holly-Bolly-Bo-Bolly). I'm making us cool t-shirts and everything!!

4- Was surprised to talk with Rob today. Not that I am surprised he called, he just called after the time when he usually does. Once it passes a certain time, I just assume he has gone to bed. He surprised me today, though -- calling over an hour after our 'normal' time

5- Mom is coming to visit in the morning -- YAY!! An adult to have conversation with AT HOME!!

Wednesday's Thanks

1- Got the new computer to work with our wireless router at least half of the time -- hoping it will stay working :-)

2- thunderstorms this afternoon -- would have only been better if I could have been napping

3- Vietnamese Pork Noodle Soup for dinner. Yum

4- Once the kids went to bed, I sat down to a glass of wine and a Rice Krispy Treat. What a mom I am!

5- Actually talked with Rob today for more than a minute. I sure do miss him, but it sure is nice to hear his voice!

Monday's Thanks

1- finally got the pool pass for the year -- we will go tomorrow. Had to get myself a suit, or we would have been there today :-) I was pleasantly surprised that the prices are a bit lower than last year to encourage military use of the pools.

2- Free lunches again onpost for dependents under 18 -- that means even Sam qualifies for one and I get to snack on what he can't eat :-p

3- wore shorts for the first time (except at Disney) this year... man am I white -- not that I am complaining. This year, I embrace my white-ness and will keep it slathered with sunscreen :-)

4- got a new swimsuit today at Sam's -- a Speedo that is semi stylish and won't be pulled off by Sam

5- The main thing I am thankful for today is that the kids and I all got along pretty well. We had a bit of a melt down after our late dinner, but I think we were all exhausted and that is how it came out -- if we stay busy, the summer will FLY by and then we will only have 9 months until Rob is back...
