Another library praise :-)

So, I've said that our library on post is pretty good. Great kids programs, etc... well, I discovered that they have CDs to check out too. Real CDs... not just kids songs or educational stuff, but real- popular-could buy at your local store-CDs. Well, I have yet to read (or see) Into the Wild, but knew that Eddie Vedder (yes, the Pearl Jam guy) was on the soundtrack. His voice is one of those that I could listen to FOREVER --

So, taking a chance, I looked. Well, they had it... and Eddie Vedder isn't just on the soundtrack, he IS the soundtrack. I am in heaven :-) Great CD, if you haven't had the chance I highly recommend it.

Faith's Family portrait

F's project today was to make a family portrait. I hadn't ever seen her draw people and was curious... so here it is. Guess which one is me...

I would be the one with the baby in my belly :-) Smart girl!

Faithism of the day

Grace: Mom. When am I going to have the chicken pox?

me: You probably won't. You had a shot that will keep you from getting it.

Grace: What about Faith -- when will she get them?

me: Faith had the same shot last week so she'll probably not have them either.

Faith: Well... (pause)... what about the turkey pox?

Does anybody else...

have a brain that they wish they could shut off sometimes?

Here's an example...

I have foods that I want a lot of... not that I crave them, just that when I get them, I will eat the same thing for four days straight because that is what I want. Right now, it is my cold penne pasta with cucumbers, turkey and parmesan cheese with Caesar dressing -- loaded with freshly cracked pepper. I have wanted it since last Friday, but we didn't have any Caesar dressing. So, yesterday, we went to Meijer. Rob reminded me of our lack of dressing so off we went to the dressing aisle.

There it was. The answer to my food needs. Ken's Steak House Creamy Caesar Dressing... my favorite brand of this particular dressing. But what does my brain make me do?!? Flip the bottle over and look at the nutritional information. UGH!!! Two tablespoons of this stuff is 18 grams of fat ... EIGHTEEN. I looked at two bottles thinking maybe one of the labels was missing a '.' and it was supposed to read 1.8g. Nope. 18grams.

I couldn't do it. Could NOT rationalize it. I tried, too. I tried really hard -- "You're pregnant, you need the extra fat" "You're eating for two" "The midwife said it wouldn't do you bad to gain some more weight" You name it, I thought it.

Couldn't do it. My brain would not let me do it. So, I found some low-fat Caesar, which is good, but not the same. (Ken's also makes a low-fat Caesar, but it isn't creamy so wasn't what I wanted/needed...)

On a positive note, my kids like this dish too. Maybe they'll eat something other than PB&J tomorrow for lunch :-)

My newest friend

It is official. I have a new friend.

I have always suffered from some pretty difficult heartburn. Always. I remember being in high school and telling mom that I was having horrible chest pains and that I was pretty sure I was having a heart attack -- I was 16. She gave me some Tums and, miraculously, the pain stopped. During each of my previous three pregnancies, I was a Tums carrying fool. I was NEVER without it. Well, this baby is sitting so high that even the midwife commented on how my stomach probably didn't have much room.

So... my new friend? Zantac.

Not to be confused with Zanex... when the midwife first said she was giving me a prescription, I thought she said Zanex. I didn't understand why I needed the anti-anxiety stuff... but no, that isn't zantac.

Zantac is a wonderful, wonderful drug that is safe during pregnancy for ulcers and stomach acid issues. Wonderful. For the first time in a few months, I was able to sleep NOT propped up last night.

She told me to take two a day. Can't do it... I do NOT like medicines. Especially when I am pregnant. So, one a day - at night - has done the trick. Wonderful. But I will have to go back to Tums when my tummy isn't quite so compressed since zantac DOES pass through breastmilk. Though maybe that will make gas drops unnecessary :-)

Faithism

Picture it... Kentucky: I was laying on the couch yesterday and the girls were both in their room for quiet time (the time when they are *ahem* nice and quiet while Bubba lays down). Faith came running in and told me that it was raining outside. I looked out of the window but saw that it wasn't raining.

Me: No it isn't. Look outside, it isn't raining on the road.

Faith: Well, it was raining in our room.

HUH?

Faith: it was. Come look.

What did I see? Droplets of rain had gotten caught on their window screen so Faith thought it was raining in her room :-)

Summer Reading Program

So, with all of the downsides of being a military family (many moves away from family and friends, deployments, etc), there sure are some up sides too. The library on post has a summer reading program that ROCKS! Tuesdays and Wednesdays have completely different storytimes and crafts. Thursdays are the "big program" -- different people come in and do demonstrations or whatever for the kids. Now, I've heard of some great summer programs, but three days a week -- free!! Wow!

Today, the author of the Woody Books came, read one of the stories to the kids and then brought the dogs out to see the kids :-) Each kid got a pawprint stamp and got to pet the dogs. You could also buy some of the books there, but I skipped that one :-p It was neat.
Next week, a whip guy is coming. I guess he is going to show all sorts of whip tricks -- great... that is what I need my kids to know :-)

And the added bonus?!? Military dependent kids get free lunches all summer long. And the library is a lunch pick up point. So, three days of storytime/craft time PLUS the lunches are there when we leave so the kids get lunch on the way out. Awesome. Though I have found that I forget to eat when I don't have to fix for them. Guess I need to work on that!

This pregnancy... 32 weeks

so, now I am not so sure that the baby is head down. Two days ago, my belly looked like a football -- literally, pointy on both sides. Then yesterday morning, I felt hiccups up near my stomach, not low like they had been. Today the hiccups were on the side. I guess I'll find out on Wednesday. Have I mentioned this baby moves... a LOT! 56 days to go...

Grace-isms

There are two today...

**Grace was writing "Happy Birthday" in the card that she made for her granddaddy... but I was a 'mean' mom and made her sound it out. I wouldn't tell her how to spell birthday.

She thought it was "Birt-day" she didn't know that the word is birth. TOO funny. She did figure it out, but it was very funny until I sounded it out for her :-)

**Rob has gotten into the habit of fixing the girls root beer floats as a special dessert after dinner -- if they have been good (very subjective interpretation of 'good' has been used lately). Anyway, Grace was begging for one tonight... but she thought they were called "flows". She kept asking for a flow. We didn't understand until she put the root beer in front of it :-p

Hmmm...

So, I am 31 weeks (plus a few days) pregnant now. And man, am I tired. Between fits of tiredness, I am officially nesting. The house hasn't looked this good since... well, before we moved in. I will find out next Wednesday if the baby is head up or head down. I am pretty confident that it made the big flip and is head down now, but I have been wrong before. Hopefully the pains I feel under my ribs are butt pains, not head pains :-) Whichever way it is flipped... this is a moving baby! Rivals Faith!

*Again... don't click on the picture... I just copied it.
